“Medical Emergencies in SMA: Pathophysiology, Prevention, and Response”
August 29–30, 2025 – Quark Hotel, Milan
On August 29–30, 2025, SMA Europe will host the 1st International Symposium on Clinical Care of SMA, to be held at the Quark Hotel in Milan, Italy.
Under the presidency of Prof. Stefania Corti from the “Centro Dino Ferrari” at Università degli Studi di Milano, Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, and Prof. Valeria Sansone from Università degli Studi di Milano, Centro Clinico Nemo, the symposium will address the medical care and support needs of people living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and their caregivers. These needs often extend beyond clinical treatments, requiring a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach.
The first edition, titled “Medical Emergencies in SMA: Pathophysiology, Prevention, and Response”, will focus on the etiology and management of acute events that may lead to potentially life-threatening emergencies in people with SMA.
Participants The symposium will bring together an international group of multidisciplinary SMA clinical experts—including physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nutritionists, and speech therapists—as well as researchers, patient representatives, and industry stakeholders.
Accreditation The event will be accredited for continuing medical education (CME) for healthcare professionals and will provide an excellent opportunity for early-career researchers and clinicians to network and share their work.
