She never set aside her dreams or gave up her passions. Today, she is the <strong>first wheelchair swimming judge in Italy<\/strong>, graduated with a thesis on the <strong>benefits of sports activity in her condition<\/strong>, and has written a book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This conversation offers an opportunity to reflect together on what it truly means to feel <strong>included<\/strong>, how <strong>prejudices<\/strong>, often invisible but deep, still affect the daily lives of people with disabilities, and how <strong>media representation<\/strong> can help change this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Today, inclusion is widely discussed, but often in a general way. For you, in your everyday life, what does it truly mean to feel included?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For me, <strong>inclusion means being part of a large group<\/strong>. I believe that achieving this requires a lot of work, not only removing <strong>architectural barriers<\/strong> but also <strong>mental barriers<\/strong>. People with disabilities are still labeled in too many areas and do not have the same opportunities. We cannot think of a disabled person as simply someone with \u201cspecial needs\u201d to set aside. They must be <strong>among others<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An example? Even today, it happens that a <strong>child with a disability<\/strong> is sent out of class early with a <strong>support teacher<\/strong> \u201cso as not to disturb.\u201d If this is still the way of thinking, then we are far from <strong>true inclusion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In your personal and professional journey, have you ever encountered prejudices related to disability? How did you respond?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Countless times.<\/strong> When I tried to enroll in <strong>Sports Science<\/strong>, they told me it wasn\u2019t possible due to my disability, even though I had already worked as a <strong>swimming judge<\/strong> at a world trophy, side by side with top champions. But for them, it was \u201cnormal\u201d to assume that, because I couldn\u2019t run or jump, I wasn\u2019t suitable. But I didn\u2019t stop: I found a university that believed in me as much as I did, and I graduated with a thesis on the <strong>benefits of sports in my disease<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You wrote a book and inspired a film: in your view, how is disability currently portrayed in the media? Is there anything you would change?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think it is <strong>still discussed too little<\/strong>. And when it is, especially artistically, the audience often doesn\u2019t truly understand how difficult certain situations are. From personal experience, I find that in <strong>books<\/strong>, whether autobiographies or novels, there is a closer resemblance to reality compared to films. In cinema, things tend to be made beautiful, more pleasant to watch. But it\u2019s not always the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Has there been a moment when you truly felt heard or valued? What made the difference?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately, I feel <strong>heard in several moments<\/strong>. Despite difficulties and prejudices, I am surrounded by people who give me the opportunity to share my experience, even with the youngest. One of the most intense moments was my <strong>TEDx talk in Pesaro<\/strong> this spring. I spoke in front of a completely silent audience. In that moment, I felt I truly had something to <strong>give to others<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/www.centrodinoferrari.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2652\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.centrodinoferrari.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-1024x682.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.centrodinoferrari.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.centrodinoferrari.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.centrodinoferrari.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-1536x1023.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/www.centrodinoferrari.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image.jpeg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A message you would like to send to young people with disabilities who feel discouraged.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I would like to tell them <strong>not to give up<\/strong>, because the <strong>passions they carry inside<\/strong> are stronger and more important than any judgment. And above all: <strong>don\u2019t feel alone<\/strong>. Even if it seems that way right now, many other people are facing the same challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will encounter obstacles, but with the <strong>right perspective<\/strong>, you will be able to overcome them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Never give up on yourself or your personality<\/strong> to chase what \u201cseems easier\u201d for a person with a disability.
