Stem Cell Laboratory, located at Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico and directed by Dr. Yvan Torrente, boasts a well-established experience within scientific and translational research about adult stem cells for therapeutical approaches. Lab expertise is focused on neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases, with particular regard to musculoskeletal disorders as dystrophies. In detail, Stem Cell Laboratory has specifically stood out for a deeply committed research for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, one of most severe muscle diseases which affects one male newborn in 3500 and still meets no cure.
The Association “Amici del Centro Dino Ferrari” has been supporting Lab research through specific high tech equipment in addition to extended equipment loan belonging to Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico. Stem Cell Laboratory is composed of dedicated facilities for cell biology and cytofluorimetry, molecular biology, biochemistry and histology sections as well as an animal house facility.
The combined approach of cell and gene therapy adds a great value to Stem Cell Laboratory within the field of Regenerative Medicine, not merely with regard to degenerative diseases but also for post injuries treatments, as in case of spinal cord and nerve traumas.
