At the “Multiple Sclerosis center”, directed by Professor Elio Scarpini, clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic activities are performed daily. Furthermore, both primary and clinical investigations are carried out, the latter by means of experimental drugs.
The clinical activity aims at making a differential diagnosis by means of a diagnositc pathway as required for a multiple sclerosis diagnosis.
Our center is qualified and authorized by Regione Lombardia as a “Centro Provinciale” and, as such, it is able to provide patients with beta-interferon Ia and Ib, glatiramer acetate, Natalizumab and Fingolimod.
The Laboratories of our center, directed by Doctor Daniela Galimberti, are located in the “Padiglione Alfieri” and “Padiglione ex-convitto” (Fondazione Granda, Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico di Milano). The activity focuses on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analyses for multiple sclerois diagnosis.
Laboratory investigations in genetics, epigenetics and molecular biology focus on multiple sclerosis and drug clinical trials, which indeed have to be supported by the collection of biological samples in order for the effectiveness of the new drug to be tested.
The laboratory activity is supported by modern devices provided by the “Associazione Amici del Centro Dino Ferrari” and free of charge lease to Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico di Milano.
