Who we are

The Center, founded by Prof Guglielmo Scarlato in 1978, is always updated in the field of neurosciences and aims at studying both the etiology and the pathogenetic mechanisms of neuromuscular and neurodegenerative disorders, the ultimate purpose being the development of therapeutic strategies.
Disease

The main pathologies studied at the Center are muscular dystrophies (Duchenne, Becker, limb-girdle, congenital), metabolic and inflammatory myopathies, mitochondrial disorders, peripheral neuropathies, multiple sclerosis, motorneuron disorders, dementias and extrapyramidal disorders.

Services and laboratories

Centro Dino Ferrari includes services for the diagnosis and therapy of Neuromuscular Disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer Disease, Parkinson Disease, and the Service of Neurophysiology. Main laboratories are those of Biochemistry, Genetics, Neuroimmunology, Histopathology, Cell Stems and Neurobiology. Affiliated laboratories are located at Istituto Auxologico IRCCS and Istituto E. Medea IRCCS.

The 11 december 2005 the paper “Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy in Transgenic Mice by over-expression of FRG1” was published on line on Nature Some researchers of the U.O. di Neurologia, Fondazione Ospedale Maggiore IRCCS – Universita’ Studi Milano, directed by Prof. N. Bresolin have collaborated with the University of Worcester- Massachussets, USA and with the University of Pavia, Italy to made this paper possible.
